Teen whines about parents on Facebook, dad shoots laptop
Dear CNET members,
As a parent of a 5-year-old and a 9-year-old, I definitely noticed this
blog entry from Chris Matyszczyk, a CNET Blog Network author:
"Teen whines about parents on Facebook, dad shoots laptop." I won't go
into details, but the title says it all. A teen daughter posts a whiny
message on her Facebook wall, complaining about her parents and her
chores, thinking Dad won't see it. Dad finds it, reads her complaint
out loud on YouTube, and takes her laptop and shoots it to teach her a
lesson.
What got to me (as it got to the father also) is his daughter's
"demand" to get paid for her chores around the house. Oh boy,
if that were my daughter, well let's put it this way, my blood
pressure just shot up a few numbers thinking about it. But
going so far as to shoot my daughter's laptop to teach her a
lesson, well I'm still on the fence about that one. My kids will be
teens before I know it and I hope that there will be favorable outcomes
in the future because of my parenting skills now--so I
wouldn't have to make this type of decision, but you never know.
Give the blog a read, and tell us what you think. Was the father right
or wrong? What would you have done? And if you were the teenage daughter, how
would you react to this? Come on down and chime in on this
topic, and let's take the question to the poll also.
Cheers!
-Lee
