CNET Community Hot Topics weekly newsletter
March 22, 2005
Dear CNET members,
I remember back in the '90s when Netscape was the spotlight browser. Sadly, today it seems like only a secondary choice, if that. With all this talk of Firefox and Internet Explorer lately, Netscape seems starved of attention. But lo and behold, earlier this month, Netscape released to the public its beta version, Netscape 8.0, with new enhanced features that may give the big boys a run for the money. Read what Senior Editor Molly Woods has to say with her test run of the Netscape 8.0 beta. Are you going to give Netscape a chance? Or is it just too little, too late for Netscape to make a comeback? Better yet, take Netscape 8.0 (beta) for a whirl yourself and tell us if it is a worthy competitor. Is Netscape going to be called the comeback kid, or are we just fooling ourselves? Tell us your thoughts by talking back to us.

Cheers!

Sneak Peek: Netscape 8.0
In her AnchorDesk column, Molly Wood recently shared her thoughts on the beta release of Netscape 8.0. Will it be a worthy competitor in the browser wars? Here's what you had to say:

Netscape forever!
CNET member kansa has been a Netscape loyalist for years and doesn't plan to switch anytime soon. She's sticking with Netscape because of its ease of use.

Stick with the leader
Though he was in the surprising minority, CNET member zee10 is a proud IE user. Working in tandem with the new Microsoft Antispyware system, zee10 has all the features and security he needs for browsing the Web.

Follow the fox
A large majority of you are sticking with Firefox, and CNET member sjpatrick is no exception. His main reason for picking the open-source browser? It works consistently across several different operating systems.

Weigh in on this week's hot topic:
What would make you go back to using the Netscape browser?
I already use it.
I'll check out the 8.0 beta, then decide.
Firefox for life.
Internet Explorer for life.
I'll consider it if it can prove itself
      to better than the rest.
Only if Jim Clark and Marc Andreessen
      take over Netscape again.
