Apple vs. Samsung: who's going to win the patent battles?

Dear CNET members,

If you have been following the latest tech news, there's no shortage of stories covering the patent battles between the two tech giants, Apple and Samsung. The lawsuits are fierce and by no means simple -- covering infringements on utility patents, design patents, and trade dress patents. You can take a stab at figuring out what's what from all that has been reported, but it's a whirlwind of arcane legal arguments and mind-boggling technical details. Thankfully CNET's Greg Sandoval in his latest blog: "The ABCs of Apple v. Samsung," gives us the big picture, breaking down this legal battle ranging from how it all started, who and what is involved, all the way to what's at stake for these two tech companies. The only thing he doesn't give us is his opinion of who he thinks will win and popcorn for the sidelines!

This is by far one of the biggest tech giant dukeouts that I've seen in a while and I'm very curious of what the outcome will be. I don't know about you but I'll be following this juicy battle till the end. So where do you stand on this patent battle? Who copied who? Who do you think will win given some of the information that you've read? If Apple wins will designers in the future avoid even similar features in their product's release fearing lawsuits like this? What if Samsung won, how would that change how others design and innovate their future products? Many of your fellow members have already chimed in on this topic and now it's your turn to post your opinion. I've even created a poll to see whose side you stand on in this battle to the finish! So get your votes in!

Cheers!
-Lee
