Now let's get started on this week topic from member, Gloria, who wants to convert some of her father's favorite vinyl records to MP3s, so he can listen to his favorite tunes without having to fuss around with his record player at his age.

Well Gloria, our members came through in a big way for you and for anyone who would like to learn how to convert their vinyl records to MP3 format. And with the availability of USB turntables and readily software available (Audacity is mentioned many times), it has gotten much easier over the years to accomplish this task.

As you read through our member recommendations, there are several ways to go about it, some which involve paying for equipment and some only requiring your existing turntable. Today even some turntables on market allows you to perform the task without even using a computer. All-in-all there are many different approaches that can be taken, and it's up to you take the route that you are most comfortable with and proceed. So please read through all the suggestions and I'm sure you'll quickly be on your way to completing this task. Have fun! Thanks to all those who contributed, we all appreciate your time and your willingness to help another in need!

(My deepest condolences go out to all the family and friends who lost loved ones in today's senseless shooting in a Connecticut elementary school. What an awful tragic event.)

Q: What is the simplest way I can convert vinyl records to MP3s?
Sadly, my father is getting to a point in his life where getting up and even placing records onto his old turntable to play has become an increasingly challenging task. For the holidays as a gift, I'd like to convert my father's old cherished collection of vinyl records into MP3 format, stick them on an MP3 player, and allow him to enjoy the music right from his chair or bed. I tried for weeks, searching for some of these albums on CDs, so I can convert them to MP3s, but most of his favorites are nowhere to be found. So here I am, asking for your help. I'm not very tech savvy, but I am a fast learner and I do own a PC running Windows XP (3GB of RAM, plenty of hard drive space), but I have no idea where to start or what I need to buy in order for me to accomplish this. Can you give me some recommendations that aren't overly technical? Step by step procedures would be fabulous. I appreciate the help, and if I'm successful, my dad would be even happier! Thank you to those who can help.

Next week's question
Q: Buying a Smart TV, do I need an anti-virus?
I am planning on buying a LG smart TV (connected TV to the Internet). My question is since this TV will be connected to the Internet and will have a native Web browser installed in the TV, is an anti-virus software needed? And if one is needed which do you recommend? Thanks for your help.
