First Look: Honda Accord Plug-in Hybrid
|
Honda released details of its new Accord Plug-in Hybrid this week,
following a press drive a few weeks ago. This new hybrid is based on
Honda's 2013 redesigned Accord sedan, but as a 2014 model year
vehicle. I was interested in the Plug-in Hybrid during the press
drive, but what had me more excited was the prospect of a an Accord
Hybrid without the plug-in capability. Plug-ins have their advantages,
but with the Accord version you are only going to get about 10 miles
of EV range, while losing a bit of trunk space. The upcoming Accord
Hybrid will work more like the Prius, with very limited EV capability,
but should still get excellent fuel economy. It also represents an
exciting new chapter in Honda's hybrid development, using a new system
that looks even more advanced than Toyota's.

2013 Ford Mustang GT Premium
The 2013 Ford Mustang GT looks very cool and churns out tons of power, yet its reasonable fuel economy, easy driving manners, and useful cabin tech make it a fun daily driver.

2012 Honda Fit Sport
The 2012 Honda Fit Sport shows the model has aged gracefully, providing handling and performance among the best in its class. The same can't be said for its outdated cabin tech options.

Reasonably well-equipped, the 2013 Mercedes-Benz GLK350 4MATIC is a solid choice as a comfortable and capable urban crossover; just don't get carried away with the options.

2012 Acura TSX Sport Wagon
A comfortable and practical car boasting decent fuel economy, the 2012 Acura TSX Sport Wagon offers a few high-tech features in the cabin, but the engine and transmission are trapped in the last decade.

2012 Kia Rio SX Sedan
The 2012 Kia Rio SX sedan feels sportier than its cousins at Hyundai, but we'd rather not have to choose between between Kia's two tech packages.
